The House that
Love Built ®
From 1995-1999, the White family was in and out of local hospitals as their son, Benjamin, battled a rare liver condition Biliary Atresia. Children diagnosed with this condition suffer from livers that do not allow bile to travel through the ducts properly ultimately requiring a liver transplant to correct the problem. Since the family lived over an hour away, the Ronald McDonald House provided a place for both parents and siblings to stay so they could remain close to Benjamin during treatment. In November of 1999, Benjamin lost his battle with this disease. However, his legacy remains as his family starts up a locally made and distributed cookie company to support the House and teach families everywhere about giving and the American spirit.
The White family realized the importance of the Ronald McDonald House as they strive to provide important services for families of children receiving medical treatment in the Grand Rapids area. When asked what he would say to Ronald McDonald House donors, Vaughn White, Ben’s father, said, “I don’t think they will ever know the impact of their giving unless they experience the outcome of their giving.”
